Your Stories for Spitball Marketing Book Please

by trey on February 11, 2010

Would you please share your stories with me to help wrap up Spitball Marketing: Using What You’ve Go to Get More of What You Want?

If you know of an individual or company who is using social media to shine a spotlight on customers or someone other than themselves, would you please share their story in the comments below or send the story to me by email? I’d like to include your stories in the book I’m working on, so by commenting below or emailing your story to me, you’re giving me permission to tell your story in Spitball Marketing and the marketing materials supporting it. In exchange, I will certainly give you credit in the book and promote your story as coming from you, everywhere I can.

This is a long, long, long shot, but, if you know of a politician or a political candidate who is using social media to shine a spotlight on constituents, PLEASE share that one with me.

If your story is included in Spitball Marketing, I’ll also send you five free copies as a “thank you,” and list you on the blog.

Here are a couple examples:

Jason Baer’s Twitter 20 interview series

Kim Madden’s use of Flickr at Carolina Manufacturing [last segment on this video]

Many thanks for your help.

I’d love to talk about how my promotion of yams through social media (and unemployment) led me to a job working for Bruce’s Yams.

Sounds like quite a story. Checking out your link now.

What I’m hoping to discover through this process are folks who are using social media to make stars out of other people. For instance, Kim Madden at Carolina Manufacturing (the example in my post above) searched Flickr for photos of fans already using her company’s bandanas. She got to know the people who posted the photos, asked their permission to reproduce them in a catalog, and then created a catalog showcasing the customers.

Jason Baer is using his Twitter 20 interview process to find and promote folks on Twitter. Jason Spencer is doing the same thing with his #scpol tweetchat.

Trey,
At B2Bbloggers.com every other Wednesday we host a chat on Twitter called #B2Bbookclub. I interview authors of business books related to b2b marketing and social media. The conversation shines a spotlight on the author, the book, and serves as promotion to the Twitter community following B2Bbloggers.

I’ve interviewed Ardath Albee, Steve McKee, Dharmesh Shah, James Othmer, Steve Woods, Paul Chaney, and have Gord Hotchkiss, David Meerman Scott, Brian Solis, and Bob Gilbreath lined up.

I love reading, that’s the benefit to me. For my readers and community, the benefit is an introduction to the book and a chance to interact with leading authors, and for the authors, its promotion.

..we (AppaPhil) are continuously promoting success stories (individuals / groups) within the Appalachian region. For example, this weekend, we will be at ArtAffects gathering stories of local artists in Southern Ohio. Items are shared through Facebook, Ning, and Twitter. If more info is desired, contact me at db.thomas@ymail.com

CC Chapman has been promoting indi musicians for many years now on hos podcast Accident Hash. No doubt he should make the book. CC is a good friend and one of the nicest people you will ever meet. A family man, creative diretor and true promoter of others.

Check out Newark mayor Cory Booker. @corybooker is an authentic voice who uses Twitter to connect with constituents, answer questions and solve problems.

As you know, I share your interest in politicians leveraging social media to dialogue and build community. There are relatively few that use it for much more than push messaging, and none I’m aware of that actually manage an integrated social media presence.

Trey Pennington February 13, 2010 at 11:22 am

Thank you Bill! I appreciate the reminder. My sister-in-law, who is an orthopedic surgeon in Phoenix and is rarely on social media, sent me at text
message this week saying I must watch a speech Cory gave. I started watching it on CSPAN, Firefox crashed, and I never went back to finish. He IS a great example. His humble candor is refreshing.
