The One Key to Effective Marketing

by trey on April 26, 2010

If you pay close attention, many best selling authors (Bob Burg, Tony Robbins, Tom Asacker, Seth Godin, Chris Brogan and others), keep saying something like, “Be generous…be helpful…” No doubt they would credit Zig Ziglar as an influential source for the philosophy.

Recently I had the opportunity to speak one-on-one with the master motivational speaker himself, so I asked him what the “secret” to effective marketing, sales, life, etc. is. Without hesitation, this is what he said…

Simple truth. Take our eyes off of ourselves and put them on someone else.

Thank you very much, Trey, for conveying the supremely important message from Zig Ziglar.

Those of us who are learning to listen to you know your commitment to helping other people, your esteem for Zig Ziglar and your excitement in sharing a platform with him.

I can imagine the focus, planning and care that you put into asking that single question and recording his answer, and can sense the significance to you of sharing with us the meaning in that very specific message.

Thanks again.

Trey – just what I needed to hear today.

Love you and miss you,
Scott

Zig is the gold standard for speakers, their integrity, transparency, and accessibility. You have captured the summation of one of his life missions. Now, if only we could achieve the implementation as well as he has.

Well done!
Kevin

Yes he is! He IS the master motivator. I still ponder his character and sense of others—in a crowded room he made that one person next to him feel like the only person in the world. If we all could cultivate THAT level of awareness of our fellow man, we would truly change the world for every man.

Thank YOU Scott. Can't tell you how many times a week I think of you, of how you're changing the world for so many people in England and soon across Europe and the United States (Helsinki, Paris, Washington, GREENVILLE!). You are SO gaining the right to be heard; I am confident you'll use the social capital you're accumulating to change lots of individual lives for eternity.

Most definitely, love you and miss you, too!

Agreed. Such a profound thought: powerful enough to guide “social media strategy” for all who are brave enough to embrace.

Thanks John.

Yes, I've thought about “if I ever got to talk with Zig face-to-face, what would I ask…” for years. When the moment came, I simply wanted to look straight into his eyes and hear him say something I've heard him say over and over again…

“You can have everything in life you want, if you'll just help enough people get what they want.”

Can't wait til we next catch up.

Hey Trey,

This is the first motivational quote I ever cut out (yes, its been long enough that I physically cut it out of an actual piece of paper!). And it really is the key to success.

When we try to make everything an equal or fair transaction, everyone involved leaves holding something of value equal to what they brought to the table, hence an even trade.

But when you unselfishly give something to someone else (help someone get what they want) then you create an excess, an abundance. And THAT is the key. Creating, working, living in abundance… it will pay you back!

Thanks for an awesome snip of video!

BTW, great to meet you in Memphis this week!

Thank you for sharing.

Getting together in person, face-to-face, is still immensely valuable. So glad we had the chance to meet in Memphis. Amy Howell does a great job not only creating content and compelling programs, but, more importantly, of bringing people together under the same roof.

Zig is also a remarkable person. I wish everyone could have seen how he gave his undivided attention to the ONE person next to him throughout the morning. Though there were hundreds in the room, Zig made that ONE person feel like he or she was the ONLY person in the world to Zig.

If we can encourage companies, politicians, organizations, and even ourselves, to attend to our customers, neighbors, friends and strangers the way Zig did, we could substantially reduce the waste that comes through broadcasting unwanted, irrelevant messages.

Gotta love Zig's words of wisdom +)
