Let’s Connect

Thank you for visiting my site. Would you mind taking a moment to connect by letting me know you were here? Whatever information you give me I’ll keep private and I promise not to send you lots of email. LOTS of email for me would be more than 13 a year. Can’t even imagine doing that many!

Many thanks.

Wow. What a background. Wish I would have known you when you were in Greenville. Maybe we'll get to meet somewhere along the way.

Yes, the taxonomy of online social connections is inaccurate or incomplete at best. "Friend" has been stretched beyond long-standing notions. On Facebook when one reaches the "friend limit," one must resort to a "fan page" or simply stop connecting with new "friends" there.

To let others know of the fan page, Facebook allows only the message, "Trey Pennington has become a fan of Trey Pennington and suggests that you become a fan of Trey Pennington, too." My mother would cringe knowing I authorized such a message; my grandfather would think I'd abandoned all civility!

I'm looking forward to seeing you make your footprints in the digital domain. I'm especially looking forward to the time when our mutual footprints reach the same destination in time and space.

Thank you for taking time to leave such an encouraging comment.

    Hello Trey:

I've been doing web marketing and e-commerce since 1997, but have avoided jumping into the social media river.  I spent the past six months considering the pros and cons and made a conscious decision about a month ago to go forward with it.

One of the main motivating factors is a new book that I wrote and the fact that I am going to be re-positioning myself as an author.  For the past twenty-five years I have been an entrepreneur with specialization in new business development and turnarounds.  I was impressed by your thoughts and frankly amazed by the fact that we have studied much of the same theology.

Here's a few factoids.  I actually owned a clothing store in Greenville twenty years ago along with stores in Asheville, Greensboro, Knoxville and Durham.  Later on I converted some stores to Jos. A. Bank franchises and then got out of the clothing business altogether.  I am an Asheville native, but I live in Maryland now.

The new book is based on business development fundamentals and I'm planning on having most of the web-related marketing content to be in the form of online information.  The web changes so fast it is tough to keep the web-related info current.  I also noticed that you were preparing to market a new book title.  I look forward to buying your book.

I haven't jumped into the twitter-stream yet, but will be doing so in the next few days.  Right now, I'm looking at the entire "who to follow"/"how to be followed" operation.  I find the semantics of "friend" "follower", etc. to be quite distasteful, but the decision is made.  Frankly, the concept of peer-to-peer is what I built my sales career on anyway, so I am quite comfortable with that.

Although I have been running businesses and doing online business, I have kept the web relatively free of my footprints intentionally.  I am just beginning to lay down a few survey stakes at the following locales.
